Member of the European Parliament from Germany, Michael Haller, said that the amendment of draft law 5655 on urban planning reform is one of the conditions for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
He said this during his visit to Ukraine in an interview with one of the TV channels, the Association of Cities of Ukraine reports, Censor.NET reports.
“It is necessary that Ukrainian laws fully comply with European rules. Important reforms have been initiated. The decentralization reform must be fully implemented and completed. It cannot be allowed that Ukraine leaves the path of fighting corruption. One of the laws we discussed is 5655. The Law on urban planning, which, according to our assessment, is problematic. It needs to be finalized,” the MEP noted.
As reported, the Association of Cities of Ukraine appealed to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to use his veto on the scandalous bill 5655. This law will lead to the monopolization of the construction market, deprive authorities and the public of the ability to control construction, and significantly narrow the powers of communities, AMU stated.
Also, more than 1,000 deputies from various communities of Ukraine appealed to the President of Ukraine to veto Law 5655 at sessions of local councils. The petition to veto 5655 on the President’s website gained the necessary 25,000 votes in a few hours. Representatives of the public and leading mass media in their address to the Verkhovna Rada insisted on a public discussion of the urban planning reform.
